Threadlift
A threadlift is a procedure that uses a dissolvable suture to tighten and lift your skin. It’s a much less invasive procedure than facelift surgery and can often be performed in under 45 minutes without needing to go under a scalpel.
Topical anesthesia is provided for the treatment. Swelling may last 3-5 days after treatment and bruising is different for everyone.
What’s great about threadlift:
- Minimally Invasive Nonsurgical Threads
- First cleared with FDA in 2013 and clinically studied
- Effect lasts about 1-2 years
About PDO threads
Polydioxanone (PDO) threadlifts use a biodegradable polyester suture. They’re best suited for rejuvenating your skin and lifting sagging skin.
PDO threads have been used in surgeries since the1980s. The presence of these sutures in your skin triggers cells in your body called fibroblasts to produce more collagen. Collagen is the protein that gives your skin its structure and elasticity. Loss of collagen is one of the main causes of aging skin.
Categories of PDO threads
PDO threads can be further divided into three categories:
- PDO cog threads. Using a blunt cannula to carefully insert an absorbable barbed thread to a deep, subcutaneous layer of skin, to provide support and lift parts of your face.
- PDO mono threads. PDO smooth threads are to be placed into the subcutaneous fat layer of the skin to promote the production of collagenous connective tissues around the inserted threads.
- PDO screw threads. Made up of one or two intertwined threads, these are used to help restore volume to sunken parts of your skin.
What areas can be treat
A thread lift can treat most parts of your face and body that are experiencing signs of aging. The areas around your cheeks, jaw, neck, forehead, eyes, eyebrows, abdomen, knee, and arms are among the most commonly treated areas.
The procedure
On the day of your procedure, your provider will talk you through the potential complications and give you advice about your recovery.
- Your provider will disinfect your face with alcohol and/or iodine. She will apply a local anesthetic with a fine needle and a thin canula.
- Your provider will anchor the thread into place and pull out the cannula.
- They’ll finish by cutting the thread and making sure it’s secure in place.
You’ll be free to go home shortly after the procedure.
The recovery and aftercare
Recovery from a PDO thread lift is minimal. You may have some swelling and minimal bruising for the first 1-2 days but you can return to most of your daily routines right away.
You should avoid rubbing/massaging your face and chewing hard foods the first few weeks after your procedure to avoid accidently dislodging the threads. Other activities you may want to avoid for 2 to 3 weeks include sleeping on your side, intense exercise, and visiting saunas/chiropractice.
Wearing a facelift support during the first 1-2 weeks as much as possible will also help the stabilization and recovery.
